Street Photography Workshop With Aussie Street

Join two of Australia’s best street photographers for an ‘Introduction to Street’ workshop in their home city of Sydney where you will be totally immersed in the fastest-growing and most accessible genre in photography today. This workshop provides both an excellent introduction to street photography for those new to the genre, as well as offers the practical expertise and knowledge necessary to take your street photography to the next level.
Sam Ferris and Bryce Waters have a combined 10+ years of experience and they will share their approaches to photographing on the street, look at what can be learned from studying the greats, give hands-on guidance during shooting sessions, and introduce the workflow of a street photographer.

- What makes a ‘good’ street photograph?
- Practical shooting tips, hands on advice, and ‘dos and don’ts’
- How to continue your growth as a street photographer post-workshop

What is street photography?
Street photography are basically candid photos that feature random incidents or moments in a public place.
Sam Ferris has been shooting on the streets of Sydney for more than 7 years. He is an organiser and co-founder of the AUSSIE STREET exhibition and competition, and is a member of SlowLight international collective. His work has been published in Internationale, Photo Review Magazine, Capture Magazine, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, Lonely Planet, Fellow Traveller the magazine of China Rail, and as an Editor’s selection on Lensculture.
In 2019, Sam was named as the winner of ‘Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographer’ in the category of Documentary/ Photojournalism. Sam’s images have been exhibited in two featured street photography exhibitions at Head On Photo Festival in Sydney as well as in exhibitions in Europe, the USA, and UK. He has been a Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize finalist (2019) and prize winner at Street Photo San Francisco, a finalist in Art and About’s ‘Australian Life’ Photographic Prize, as well as a finalist in Miami Street Photography Festival and Brussels Street Photography Festival. His ongoing project on living in Sydney entitled ‘In Visible Light’ was featured in the academic text ‘Photography as a Social Research Method’ (2016), and recently alongside his heroes Trent Parke and Jesse Marlow, Sam was one of three Australian street photographers selected for the book ‘100 Great Street Photographs’ (2017), edited by David Gibson and released by Prestel Publishing. Sam holds an Honours degree in Arts and a Masters of Teaching.

Bryce Waters is an award-winning senior creative and art director currently residing in Sydney, a keen Photographer, chess player, and dedicated dog dad.
What started as a hobby while photographing holidays and nights out with friends, turned into an obsession with a camera permanently slung around his neck. Discovering street photography allowed Bryce to bring his endless creativity to everyday situations, quickly becoming known for his distinctive aesthetic of colour, flash, and the cast of incredible characters that populate his frames. He now spends every spare moment cruising the streets.
Bryce is now one of the rising stars of Australian street photography scene, with work published in EyeShot Magazine and The Australian Newspaper, as well as featuring in two group exhibitions during the international Head On Photo Festival. He is a co-founder and organiser of the AUSSIE STREET festival.
