Hello, how is everyone doing? I trust you are all doing well. My name is Michael I’m 17 and currently studying at Shire Christian Highschool. My hobbies include photography, studying and basketball. I started photography nearly 2 years ago when, fortunately, one day after school my dad invited me to take photos with me. Ever since then I have found myself getting more actively involved in this accepting and loving community. From the beginning to now I have only had pleasant experiences. One of the things I enjoy the most is the feeling of finally getting your photo to look just right after hrs in photoshop/lightroom.
What gear do you use to take your photos?
I use a fairly old camera, the Canon 5D Mark 2 it’s difficult to shoot with during lowlight situations, but it is a solid camera. I use the Canon 16 to 35mm 4.0, Canon 50mm 1.8 and Canon 85mm 1.8.
What type of photography are you into?
I love Portraiture and Night City Landscapes the most but my passion lingers into all types of photography!
How did you start photography? What/Who inspires you?
I have always had an inclination to create things that look visually appealing whether it was clothes, art or just making sure everything is how I like it to be. Around June in 2018, my dad invited me to take some photos with him and ever since then I have fallen in love with photography. I started looking up photography tutorials on YouTube and was fascinated by the limitless creativity it has to offer, it allowed me to visualise the world literally in a different way and it was a catalyst for me to escape the reality of my world. From the beginning to now I have appreciated every moment and I’m always thinking of my next shot.
When I first started photography, other major photographers’ influences played a major role in how I would conduct my photos, but as time went on, I began exploring my own style. Today I draw upon the creativity that video games and movies have to offer as my main source of inspiration for the colour palettes and even interesting angles to shoot from!

Top 3 photo tips?
1. Do not let your photography identity and skills be dictated by the quality/level of camera you currently own. Expensive equipment is not the tool that creates great photos. An expensive pen does not make you a great writer/poet. It is the mind and soul behind the camera that matters, it is the ability to infuse your camera with your creativity that brings meaning and life. The greatest tool anyone possesses is their mind, it’s your palace, use it to your full potential.
2. Photography Rules are there help you start, sure they are great guidelines to follow to guarantee your photo to turn out ok, but learn to be bold and take risks that do not cling to the norms of photography. It is through one’s ability to express their individuality that allows the individual to improve intrinsically exponentially. Step away from conventional rules such as the rule of thirds from time to time.
3. Have a spot in mind today that you cannot wait to shoot? Do yourself a favour and don’t shoot that spot first. In my short photography experience, I have noticed that the first spot I shoot is usually my worst photos for the day. To combat this, I like to have alternative locations planned before the location I truly desire. This allows me to warm up and mentally prepare. This is helpful as too many times have I been unhappy with the shots I have taken with my first spot, but found that my photos gradually improve as the day ticks.
What has been your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience would be without a doubt the moment I received an email from “Australian Photography “that informed me I was a top ten photographer in Sydney. The context for this was that they hosted a photographer of the year competition online and I submitted a few photos and won. It was a truly extraordinary experience for a 17-year-old.
What are you getting up to over the Easter holidays?
Over the Easter Holidays, I will be doing some home photography whether that be some product photography or some particle photography. Due to the coronavirus, I have isolated myself from going out to shoot. When I’m not pursuing photography I will be spending time with my family and taking advantage of these times to grow even closer to my family.
What animal do you associate Easter with?
I associate Easter with the bunny animal, probably because of the times I use to go on Easter bunny chocolate egg runs.
