If you fast forward back to five years ago and told us Sony was going to be the camera brand to watch, we wouldn’t have believed you. In year 2018, Sony mirrorless cameras are all the rage. There isn’t enough supply to keep up with demand, used by professionals and enthusiasts all around the world. Here are seven reasons why Sony mirrorless cameras are killing it right now:
1. Eye AF to nail every portrait
Most cameras on the market utilise some kind of facial detection autofocus system to assist in pinpointing focus on the face. However Sony has taken it that one step further with continuous EYE detection autofocus. With the press of a button you can seamlessly track a persons why side to side, forwards and backwards. This is available on most Sony cameras.
2. Low light performance
One thing Sony does really well is their ability to handle high ISOs. Sonys in house developed backside illuminated sensors are best in its class.
3. Super fast autofocus
Ever since the launch of the entry level Sony a6000, Sony cameras have been placed on a high throne for autofocus speed. Focusing in just milliseconds Sony cameras focus super quick.
4. High AF performance
Aside from speed the autofocus performance is pretty good too. AF accuracy, tracking reliability in video and photo are top notch in the Sony camera range.
5. Video features and performance
Sony cameras are great hybrids because of its photo and video flexibility. Sony cameras boast a large range of video features such as super slow motion, and SLOG colour profiles which are present even in their Sony RX100 compact range. To top it off there are a wide variety of video assist tours on board such as zebras and focus peaking that benefit any level of videographer.
6. Lenses for everyone
At first one of the biggest issues about the Sony camera system initially was its lack of lenses. It was competing alongside Canon and Nikon which had established a large line of lenses decades ago. However it is safe to say that in 2018, Sony have produced a line of lenses that range from wide angle to super telephoto to suit all occasions and people.
7. 5 Axis In Body Image Stabilisation
Having a sophisticated in body image stabilisation system such as the 5 axis system in Sony cameras. This really unlocks the ability to seamlessly create photo and videos in a variety of conditions. In addition, for those who adapt non stabilised lenses to the camera, they will be image stabilised.
