Last month I went out with some friends from the ACP and Johnny Miller. We got to Long Reef and I was super excited to fly my Mavic pro. However I painfully found out as I was about to launch it that my drone suffered from the gimbal motor overload fault. Luckily for me I had a backup Mavic Air on me.
To be quite honest, the Mavic Air was a lot better than I expected it to be. Upon launch it did not handle wind as well as the Mavic Pro; you could see it slowly slowly drift up with the updraft. Despite this it never once felt like I was out of control during the flight. It flew fast, stable and the connection on it’s Wi-Fi transmission felt solid.
My only gripe is that the battery life is super short in comparison to the Mavic Pro. It felt like the fun had just started and I had to bring it back in 15 minutes. Whilst Johnny and the rest are still flying their Mavic Pros.
In saying that I had heaps of fun flying the Mavic Air, and the quality of the videos/stills is fantastic. Some tips if you’re going to fly a Mavic Air, make sure you to bring spare batteries to max out the most enjoyment out of your drone.
